Good news these days is that Longaberger Baskets moved all their outsourced jobs from China back to Ohio. However, that does not tell us the history of the Easter Basket —
The basket was originated in Poland, and perhaps some other Eastern European nations nearby. As with the hand painted eggs seen around Eastern Europe, Russian, Ukraine, and Belarus, several iterations of the basket may exist. However, the Polish basket is well known.
On Easter Saturday, food that would be prepared for the meals on Easter Saturday and Sunday were placed into a basket – sometimes a basket made of bread – and taken to church by the children in the families. There, teh food was blessed for the holiday meals. It is a charming custom.
