In August 2013, the month that iconic news anchor and writer Tom Brokaw learned of his own diagnosis of multiple myeloma, Dr. Shaji Kumar spoke about new treatments. The disease has been called incurable up to now.

Of a dozen risk factors, exposure to nuclear fallout or work in the petroleum industry ( Oil & Gas) in the past are both likely causes of the condition. A dozen US States have been irradiated by fallout from American and global sources.

But now, there is hope for a cure in the near future.

The Ohio State University, the Mayo Clinic, and several other medical centers have discovered new treatments that may lead to a cure. Prevention will be just a few steps beyond those discoveries.

Multiple myeloma is a rare blood and bone cancer that originates in many people who have a precursor condition called MGUS. That condition is harmless, but can turn into cancer later. Sometimes multiple myeloma shows symptoms and sometimes it does not.

Several doctors are certain that they are prolonging the lifespan and increasing the likelihood of a good prognosis in patients with multiple myeloma.  Tom  Brokaw calls himself “lucky.”

Meanwhile, Tom Brokaw can b an advocate for finding the cure for his condition and save thousands of additional lives.
