Regeneration and rebuilding of the human body and its parts is becoming a large field of study and might become Big Business.

Historically, France was one of the first countries we heard of whose scientists experimented with limb regeneration in rats. In the 1940s, a rat’s foot would be severed and a toe would grow back by whatever methods the French used.

In the 1980s, Wright State University began studies into nerve regeneration. in the spinal cord of humans. While working on this, scientists developed electrical means of stimulating the severed spine in a mechanical exoskeleton so that a patient could walk. One woman tried it out successfully for her wedding.

In 1984, the 3D printer was invented see the link in the end references for a full story. I recall hearing about this 3D printer and shortly thereafter, about scientists prtinting up small sheets of blood cells – then artificial skin of a type in the 1990s. The printer revealed many manufacturing applications, including medical and aerospace.
