The complete Lake Erie Circle Tour takes travelers across a distance of 680 miles around this Great Lake. Ohio Governor John Kasich recently vetoed a bill in 2011 that would allow commerical businesses to draw down millions of gallons of water per month from Lake Erie, so he has helped preserve the lake for its wildlife and native plants as well as for tourists and Ohio residents that love the lake and this circle tour.
The AAA-suggested route around Lake Erie is from Detroit, Michigan (where you can also visit the shores of Downtown’s Belle Isle ) to Toledo, Ohio eastward across the state, across a short portion of Pennsylvania, where you might see the Northern Lights some nights at Presque Isle next to Erie PA, up through New York to Niagara Falls, and across the Peace Bridge to Ontario Province, Canada. From there, Ontario Highway 3 runs along the shore of Lake Erie all the way back to the Ambassador Bridge in Detroit.
If you’re looking for fun, a good time, fine wines, great attractions, outdoor sports, lake fishing, or even jobs in the larger cities, the Lake Erie Circle Tour is a fantastic place to drive.
