In 2010, about 6,000,000 grandparents in the USA live in the same house as a minor child, often raising the children in place fo the missing parents.  This can be burdensome or it can be rewarding.

Multi-generational households are making a comeback in the late 1990s across all color, race, and class lines.; even in the suburbs.  The Recession of 2008 – 2010 gathered people together into larger units again in order to save money and sometimes just to survive.  This ahs not been a bad thing for the kids.

OSU Program 60 and Grandparent Mentoring

As the US population ages, free education programs are emerging to keep Seniors alert and active in the larger families, often helping the children with school.  Some universities even providing free courses in whatever classes have room for an auditor to attend.

Yes, it is more prevalent in the urban centers of our nation, but suburbs and rural communities are beginning to experience this grandparent phenomenon more and more. There is definitely life after 40!
