Memorabilia Collectors discuss the origins of Pepsi and Coke, while both drink manufacturers maintain their own websites and museums around the world. COroversy syurrounding both drinks, one stemming from cocaine and the other from an accident during a commerical that set Michael Jackson’s hair on fire and may have led t his addictions to pain killers. Over 50 years apart, the famous incidents may both be seen as drug-related.
Among people that are not collectors of soft drink memorabilia, the similarities and differences between Coke and Pepsi can become confused. One thing remains certain however, and this fact is that both soft drinks originated in pharmacies in the American South in the 19th Century. They were peddled by soda jerks and were actually competition for business brought in lemonade, phosphates, fruit syrups, and sarsaparilla, and root beer. Soda waster could be added to anything and our modern carbonated beverage took the stage at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair.
