Anyone that wants to exercise, should be allowed to do so.

A famous Martial Arts grandmaster in California tells classes full of students of all abilities to say, “He can do , she can do, why not me?” Anything may be possible, and in these classes, anything can happen. The same is true of a variety of sports and exercise activities – swimming, ballet, therapy horses, the Paralympic Games, Special Olympics – on and on. Sometimes we see a child that is confined to a wheelchair and think, Why? sometimes they do not need to be there. Not always can such a child rise up and leave the chair behind, but some can, with the proper activity and guidance.  Sometimes a physical therapist or an insurance company says they cannot do anything further, because the insurance coverage ran out, but parents think it means that the child is hopeless and that nothing further will work.  This is not the case.

Exercise for Those Labeled “Disabled”

Men and women injured in accidents and in the Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are being rehabilitated through sports and the Paralympics.  Even Alzheimer’s  patients can received regular exercise in their hospitalizations. A simple action like holding a rolled washcloth in either hand prevented Terry Schiavo’s hands from becoming claws, until her husband ordered all help and physical activity banned. Seniors in nursing homes in Chicago over come artist with the help of martial arts instructors that begin them slowly with finger exercises. For the immobile and for new infants, passive exercise can be applied for them.

Anyone that wants to exercise, should be allowed to do so.
