Are you familiar with the Paralymic Games that occur each year that the Olympics are held? In March 2010, they are ongoing for two weeks March 12 – 21, during Health Month. Health is much more than the nonexistence of disease and paralympic athletes live in health despite certain conditions. Some of them have lost two or three limbs in battle and are still healthy. How?

Vancouver 2010 Winter Paralympics

The paralympics are part of rehabilitation of many of the injured.  They are held on the same site as the Olympics, using the same Olympic Village and same Event Venues.  However, the participants have physical challenges that have kept them out of the “regular” Olympics in the past. Perhaps for not much longer, though –

Today, paralympians have come very close to qualifying for the standard Olympic Games and may do so in the 2012 Summer Olympics. Meanwhile, they compete in the summer and winter versions for the physically challenged.

These people are athletes despite disabilities.  When I look at wheelchair curlers controlling more extensions that I do when I simply walk or even when I perform martial arts, and I ask, “What disabilities?” I want to award every one of them a 1st Dan black belt and feel sure that they could fulfill the requirements of they took the strenuous course.  I know what it is like to get someone out of a wheelchair, to instruct them while sitting and even lying on the ground. They are all amazing people.

Many paralympians have been soldiers in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, for several different nations and not just USA and Canada.  Their stories are amazing and stop the reader cold.
